Ubuntu Installation

Ubuntu is now fully installed on my HP nx6325.

To do this I needed to boot the live CD with the no-apic switch. Thanks to this guide for the nx6125.

  • The caddy has ext3 file system

  • Windows has ext3 drivers to access caddy and ubuntu's partition (U:)

  • /home/martin is mapped to be the same folder as My Documents

  • Ubuntu has full read/write NTFS drivers for accessing C:

  • Flash and java are installed

  • Kopete is installed and webcam is working both ways (albeit with a very dark picture - why won't they make some proper drivers)

  • Outlook and Thunderbird both connect to the mail servers via IMAP so they both contain the same data

  • All MP3, DVD, WMA codecs are installed and working

  • Wireless networking is working at 11mbit (I can see Bursary8 exists)

  • OpenOffice has a Access Database plugin that doesnt quite work

  • SSH and SFTP to the Thom Lab at uni are set up and my home folder in the Thom Lab is mounted as a network drive

  • Wine Windows API layer installed
